From time to time in this space, Balboa Press publishes articles written by our authors in which they share some aspect of their self-publishing journeys. These are the words of Salwin Anand, author of “Caught in a Storm“. You can find out more about Salwin and his book on his Twitter and featured on this website. Tell us a little bit about your book. What inspired you to write it?
In the winter of 2012, my father told me lovingly while he was crying, “Sunny, I am going to die. After I die everyone will forget me. But, all my friends in the dialysis unit tell me that I am so lucky to have a family and grandchildren that care about me. You always told me to enjoy life and keep a bucket list. Today I am telling you, I want you to write a book on us whether I am alive or not.” Whilst, I was sitting in my living room when all the guests left after offering their condolences, I saw my father’s photo and remembered his idea of writing a book. That was when I realized what I needed to do next.
What is the one message you would like to convey to your readers?
After my health had deteriorated, the book was equally divided into parts about me and parts about my father. Through both of our struggles I realized that this book wasn’t just for him, it was for every person who failed to see the potential in their family. I want everyone to know how valuable time is and how many regrets we can have if we trust time instead of our loved ones. The message I also would like to convey is spend quality time with the people who care because time doesn’t wait.

- Balboa press was wonderful and really wanted to understand my expectations.
