Your Blog is an Essential Part of Your Author Platform

From time to time in this space, Balboa Press publishes articles written by our authors in which they share some aspect of their self-publishing journeys. These  are the words of Eve Wilson, author of Riding The Wave Of Change – Hope, Healing And Spiritual Growth For Our World” which will be released in 2015.. You can find out more about Eve and her book at her website, blog, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Blogging for me has become one of the most important contributions I make to my community and to the building of my practice as a spiritual healer, teacher and author.

I began a few years ago, as a way to encourage and support my students, clients and the readership of my many published articles. I am a leader in what is still a little recognized area and felt that people needed education and more support in their lives than I could give them one on one, or in classes I teach. My goal was to give people hope, understanding and confidence in the changes that are happening in our lives, in our societies around the planet, and in the natural world in which we live.

ThinkstockPhotos-527093697Every week I receive numerous comments, expressing how what I call The Weekly Word for Healing & Ascension blog is something they look forward to and find helpful and encouraging in their life. My blog has also become a place where in addition to the gift of teaching it provides, I can include information about my work including classes or healing treatments, and encourage people to Like Me on Facebook etc. As my book is in process of being published, my blog is a place where I regularly remind people that Riding The Wave Of Change – Hope, Healing And Spiritual Growth For Our World is coming out on Balboa Press in 2015!

As I have worked on my book, I have become increasingly aware of how helpful my blog is for building what is called an “author platform” to generate interest and get the word out about it. I am glad that I began the blog prior to the book project, because my readership has been growing steadily over the two plus years it took to write it. My readers are excited to know when the book will be out so they can receive a copy! I intend to take advance orders, offering a personal autograph in their book. I can offer them hard cover or paperback, since I will be ordering these on-demand, and with advance orders I will have a better idea how many hard cover people want. I would probably just order paperback otherwise.   While writing the blog has been a huge investment in time and creative energy, I know it will be paying back dividends once the book is available!

It’s amazing how as word of my book is getting out, I am already receiving invitations to speak and lead workshops! People are impressed because they know Balboa Press and have read other books on this label. The name inspires confidence in my work as an author and as a teacher and healer. I feel blessed to be able to work with this company and know that I have so much more support than if I had chosen to go one of the more independent routes for publishing.

Balboa Press authors who’d like to share a 350-600 word experience related to the self-publishing of their books, are invited to do so by sending a message through our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BalboaPress, by tweeting us @BalboaPress, or by emailing blog@ balboapress.com. We may not be able to use every story, but we will read and consider them. Balboa Press reserves the right to edit stories for content, grammar and punctuation accuracy; as well as for space.
